Sayu Hisamuna (久沼さゆ, Hisanuma Sayu^?) is a third grade elementary school student and Miuna Shiodome's best friend who has crush on Kaname Isaki. After the time skip, she enters middle school with Miuna and decides to study hard to become an independent woman, but her crush on Kaname also grows stronger and she tries her best to overcome it. However, Kaname was the only reason that she was moving on. She eventually makes Kaname see her as a girl his age, instead of the little girl he knew before going into hibernation. In the epilogue, she is seen with her hair down in order to look more mature, likely as an attempt to impress Kaname.

Appearance[]

Sayu has wavy short light-brown hair that is tied into pigtails and light hazel-brown eyes. On her right pigtail is a red bow that holds a section of her hair while just a regular red hair tie on her left.

After the Timeskip[]

After the timeskip, her light brown hair seems to have grown longer and she wears it in small pigtails with red ribbons while the rest of her hair is open.

Personality[]

Sayu cares a lot for Miuna Shiodome that she tries her best to protect Miuna from harm and tries to make her happy. She tries her best at everything so that Kaname Isaki would see her as an actual girl instead of just a child. After the timeskip, she becomes an independent and self-confident girl. When Kaname wakes up from hibernation she seems to lose a bit of that confidence, but that's mainly when it comes to him and the topic of romance.

Relationships[]

Kaname Isaki[]

After Kaname gets her to open up about her past and befriend Hikari, she develops feelings for Kaname. After the time skip, she enters middle school with Miuna Shiodome and decides to study hard to become an independent woman, but her crush on Kaname also grows stronger and she tries her best to overcome it.

While Sayu has feelings for Kaname, He, on the other hand, still has feelings for Chisaki Hiradaira after the timeskip. There is however a growing connection between the two. When Kaname says it's better that Manaka is better without falling in love, Sayu tells Kaname that he is selfish to think that it would be better to not love and not consider her feelings. She then tells Miuna that the only reason she could move on with her life was because of her feelings for Kaname. Because of this, she explains that she's going to tell him how she feels about him, not caring if she gets rejected or not. Probably on her way to do just that, she accidentally sees Kaname eavesdropping on Tsumugu and Chisaki when they were having a private conversation about their feelings for each other.

As he walks away, she runs after him and asks if he likes Chisaki, which he confirms. She then scolds him for not telling Chisaki how he really feels about her, but Kaname tells her that doing so would make no difference, as even if he told her, she would only care for him like a brother and she would love Tsumugu instead. Sayu then proceeds to confess that she has always been watching him and that he was always in her heart. Stunned by her confession, Kaname tells Sayu that, after returning from hibernation, he felt lonely and thought that no one had been waiting for him, and starts crying that this whole time, Sayu was waiting for him and he was her motivation. He then tells her that although he had always been looking at Chisaki, he would start looking at her now, telling her that when it comes to a future with her and him, it was a good place to start. Sayu seems pleased by this, but hides it by saying Kaname is so condescending. Kaname thanks her for cheering him up and Sayu is seen blushing.

In the last episode, it is known that Kaname and Sayu have grown a lot closer, and will date in the near future.

Miuna Shiodome[]

Miuna has been Sayu's best friend ever since second grade. Sayu deeply cares for Miuna and defends her at any cost, which has been seen when she ruins the Ojoshi-sama because Hikari Sakishima wouldn't play dirty with them to break Miuna's father (Itaru Shiodome) and Hikari's sister (Akari Sakishima) up. This upsets Miuna as she clings on to Hikari's morals, which then upsets Sayu because she doesn't like to be the cause of Miuna's unhappiness. When confiding in Kaname, she states that instead of being those girls who ignored Miuna, she wanted to be a special person to her - Miuna is seen behind the wall, but doesn't interrupt or say anything to Sayu.

Since the timeskip, their friendship becomes strain and the two occasionally fight when Sayu questions why Miuna invited her along with her and Hikari, only for Sayu to be the third-wheel and watch as they "flirted" with each other, but in reality Hikari was just teasing Miuna. Miuna also deeply cares about Sayu as seen when she wanted to desperately make amends with her. The two have a very lovingly, caring relationship and do not like to see other hurt or upset.

Etymology[]

The name Sayu is written by hiragana (さゆ) and it has no meaning, although the word (白湯) has the same pronunciation and it means "plain hot water".
Sayu's surname Hisanuma means "long time" (久) (hisa) and "swamp, pond, bog, lake" (沼) (numa).
